Grammy Irene and I slept on the fold out couch when she came to visit us. We had so much to say to each other that when it was time to sleep she would say “Good night again, and again and again”. I knew it was time to go to close my eyes.
Works in Progress is a project that breathes new life into ordinary overlooked objects. I use repurposed materials such as lint, organic matter, fabric, yarn, twigs, wires, etc., Taking objects in various states of disrepair, transforming them into unique works of art. When presented as a workshop I assist participants in the repair, upcycling and transformation of the damaged or incomplete item(s) they bring, turning those items into new wearable art creations and rendering them usable again. The workshops encourage storytelling and exchange of ideas relating to what actions do we take collectively and individually to safeguard our planet and contribute towards positive change.
This project can be commissioned and tailored to specific requests, as well as being conducted as a series of workshops. Works in Progress adds meaning to objects, showing life cycles instead of discarding/replacing, and challenges us to push past traditional utility.
